A custom diamond painting turns one of your own photos – a grandchild, a beloved pet, a wedding day or a favorite trip – into a complete kit you finish by hand. We print your photo onto an adhesive canvas, match it with the right colors of drills and send everything you need. Below you'll find how it works, which photos turn out best and how long it takes.
How it works in 4 steps
- Upload your photo. On the Custom Photo kit page, choose your picture straight from your phone or computer.
- Choose size, drill shape and frame. Sizes range from 15 × 20 cm (about 6 × 8 inches) up to 60 × 90 cm (about 24 × 35 inches). Pick square or round drills and decide whether you'd like it framed.
- We make your kit. Your photo is converted into a color chart and printed on the canvas. Each kit is made to order just for you.
- Create your picture. Your box arrives with the canvas, all drills, applicator pen, wax and tray – plus easy instructions.
Which photos work best?
The photo decides how good the finished picture looks. These simple rules make the biggest difference:
- Bright and sharp. Daylight photos with clear focus work best. Dark or blurry photos lose detail.
- Faces nice and large. The face should fill a good part of the picture. Tiny faces in a group shot become hard to recognize.
- Use the original. Upload the photo itself, not a screenshot or a picture sent through a messaging app – those are often compressed.
- Phone photos are fine. Modern smartphone pictures work great.
- Simple backgrounds. A calm background keeps attention on the people or pet you love.
Not sure about your photo? Add a Photo Check
If you'd like a second pair of eyes, add our optional Photo Check to your order. Our team reviews your photo before production, so your kit turns out just right.
Which size should I choose?
The larger the canvas, the more detail you see – especially for faces. As a rule of thumb:
- Pets and single portraits: 30 × 40 cm (about 12 × 16 inches) or larger.
- Two to three people: 40 × 50 cm (about 16 × 20 inches) or larger.
- Bigger groups and landscapes: 50 × 60 cm (about 20 × 24 inches) and up.
Small sizes are lovely for simple motifs, but very detailed photos look clearer on a bigger canvas.
Square or round drills?
Square drills sit tightly together and give a sharper, fuller picture – many customers choose them for portraits. Round drills are a little easier to place and create a softer look. Our guide Square vs. Round Drills explains the difference.
How long does it take?
Because every kit is made to order, please allow about 10–14 business days until it arrives. Shipping within the U.S. is always free. If you're planning a gift for a birthday or the holidays, order early.
How long you'll spend creating it depends on the size: a small kit can be done in a few evenings, a large portrait can keep you happily busy for several weeks.
